Welcome

After years in grocery retail and consultancy spaces, I’m getting my thoughts down in writing. On this site, you will find articles about retail, retailers and customers. Some will be more timely than others, some will be more formal than others, but the goal is that readers can learn something new with each one.

Why “Busted Shopping Cart”

When I was a kid, grocery shopping meant cart surfing. We have all done it, hold onto the handle bar, run as fast as we can, and then jump onto the back of the undercarriage, sending yourself across the parking lot or down the aisle.

The key to cart surfing is due diligence. It’s imperative you avoid that cart with the broken/jammed/stuck wheels.

After finding a parking spot at the store, the next decision we make is which shopping cart to take with us on our journey. If you aren’t careful, you will be stuck with a 3-wheeled monster with a mind of its own and will ultimately ruin the nice time you might have had otherwise. You find yourself fixating on why the store has kept it in the corral at the entrance to their store and wondering why they can’t just fix it. Hopefully these articles give you the same curiosity and leave you thinking about why you shop, what you shop for and how it could be better.

Happy reading.

The shopping cart was invented in Oklahoma by Sylvan Goldman in 1938.

The original was less fun to ride.

Thanks for reading. Hope you enjoyed it.
